In the name of God Amen The seventeenth day of November in the year of our lord god one thousand six hundred fifty two I Henry Pottrell of Aspenden in the county of Hertford yeoman being in good and perfect health and memory thanks be given to Almighty god for the same do hereby revoke all former Wills heretofore by me made and do make and ordain this my present last will and testament in manner and form following first and principally I commend my soul into the hands of almighty god my maker trusting only to be saved by and through the merits death and passion of Jesus christ my only only saviour and redeemer and my body to be earth from whence it came Item I give and bequeath unto John Pottrell of Aspeden aforesaid my nephew the sum of ten pounds to by paid to him by my executor here after named within six months after my decease Item I give unto Henry Pottrell son of the said John to him and his heirs forever all that my copyhold houses and land situate lying and being in the parish of Little Hormead now in the tenure of John Thorne of which I have already made a surrender in court Item I give and bequeath unto the said Henry Pottrell all that my messuage or tenement with the houses gardens orchards lands meadows and pastures thereto belonging in Aspeden aforesaid now in the tenure or occupation of me the said Henry Pottrell the testator or my assigns and all my houses lands and messuages whatsoever situate lying and being within the parish and fields moates and bounds of Aspeden aforesaid to hold to the said Henry Pottrell son of the said John Pottrell his heirs and assigns forever Item I give and bequeath unto the poor people of Aspeden aforesaid the sum of twenty shillings of lawful money of England to be paid and distributed amongst them by my executor within one month after my decease all the rest of my goods and chattels moveables and immoveables ready money whatsoever my debts and legacies being paid and my funeral expences discharged I give and bequeath to the said John Pottrell and Henry Pottrell to be equallty devided between them and I do hereby ordain and make the said Henry Pottrell my sole and whole executor of this my present last Will and testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto put my seal and set my mark these being Witnessed the mark of Henry Pottrell Sealed published and declared as the last will and testament of the said Henry Pottrell in the presence of Raffreeman Ralph Freeman Rowland Penny Father Thomas Cater

This Will was proved at Westminster the seventh day of September in the year of our Lord God according to the computation of the Church of England one thousand six hundred fifty and seven before the judged for provate of Will and granting administrations lawfully authorised by the oath of Henry Pottrell the natural and lawful son of the said deceased and sole executor named in this Will of the said deceased for whom was committed administraiton of all and singular the goods chattels and debts of the said deceased he being first legally sworn by virtue of a commission well and freely to administer the same.
